In the darkest depths of my soul you give me flight
Darkness surrounds and entraps me until you are near
You fight off my enemies with chopping blows so clear
I rely on your strength and your wisdom to protect me against the night
Often times when I am alone I wonder how I could continue in this fight
Alone I am frightened, a little girl lost, but with you I have no fear
I find courage to continue and even to fight myself for you are so dear
Day in and day out I will wander through life with this continuous plight
You are but a shadow that taunts my mind
Descending ever deeper and further from my actual realities you go
My heart yearns for your soul and soon is to shatter
Your light is covered by the shade of this world, covered so it I will never find
Long ago I committed myself to you and so I here I wait in woe
Whether you travel the paths of the living man does not matter

So, I was just watching the movie "Candy" and its divided into three sections entitled, "Heaven", "Earth" and "Hell"...it just totally reminded me of Dante and the Divine Comedy for some reason...hmmm wonder why, lol

"I say more: to return to what we hate,
And a heart free from fear and from abuse
Were not too slight a warrant of my faith"

This line from Petrarch's Sonnets struck deep within me. I find that it is rooted in the human condition to love that which hurts us. This fascinates me. The line also got me thinking about how Petrarch's Sonnets are so familiar to lyrics from modern songs. This section greatly reminded me of a line from one of my favorite songs:

"Heaven stole the light of day...the color always changes hue, from bright to black and blue."
